As part of the Brighton New England Quarter, this flagship development of 172 homes has delivered an exceptional sustainable community.
This car free development is super energy efficient and carbon neutral. It includes: integrated recycling facilities, rooftop mini-allotment plots and on-site composting facilities. A community centre provides a focal point for the wider community and a Green Lifestyles Caretaker and community extranet helps residents to make sustainable lifestyle choices.
The 172 residential units were planned along with office space, a community centre and both private and public open spaces and landscaping. Energy efficiency is achieved by incorporating photo-voltaics, a biomass boiler and establishing an Energy Services Company (ESCO) to source the remaining electricity requirements through a ‘green tariff’. In addition, the Green Travel Plan includes a car club, cycle club and cycle storage facilities.
We managed the planning application and subsequent implementation that embraced the One Planet Living framework – a joint initiative between WWF and the BioRegional Development Group.
